HAPPENINGS Florida Georgia Line is returning to Rock the South after one the duo’s most successful years. W hen the lights flood the stage of Rock the South, a much-antici- pated performance by Kid Rock will headline the 8th year of Cullman’s largest show. Established as a post-tornado, spirit lifting fundraiser for the community, Shane Quick and partner Nathan Baugh have raised the bar to where Rock the South is one of the top summer concert destinations in the United States. From Alan Jackson, Hank Williams Jr. to this year’s headliners wrapped into two days, another record year of attendance is expected at a new venue on the southwest corner of town. The 150-acre site leaves open the possibility for continued growth as well as new amenities for fans. An RV area and campgrounds are already on tap for this year’s show. “This move is allowing us more space and the chance to break out some things we On Stage Kid Rock, Florida Georgia Line, Brooks & Dunn, Jake Owen, Morgan Wallen, Mitchell Tenpenny, Jimmie Allen, Colt Ford, Travis Denning Hardy haven’t been able to do in the past,” Quick said. “We’re excited that we can create the kind of atmosphere that makes Rock the South a memorable experience, from the setting to the great acts who perform.” Joining Kid Rock will be Florida Georgia Line and Brooks & Dunn, along with many other rising starts in country music. Last year’s show topped 60,000 attendance. This year may crack 65,000 to 70,000 with the expanded venue. The response to Kid Rock alone has sparked a huge response from fans. The Mich- igan-based performer has successfully record- ed and performed a variety of music styles, but he has moved deeper into the country sound with tremendous accolades. C Rock the South May 31-June 1 Rock the South has given more than $639,000 to local charities, including The Link of Cullman County, Cullman Caring for Kids, Childhaven and others.
