We bring them in for 30-day trials to see how they react to the things they will see here,” Rice says. “We have three trainers who work with the horses and then the students.” The horses have their own unique personalities, which the trainers quickly realize. Butter, who is the favorite of Hannah Jacobs, enjoys strong commands and the confidence of a rider. Hannah’s mother, Connie Jacobs, said her daughter has been in the program since the first year in 2014. “I think she missed the first session, but she has been there ever since,” Connie Jacobs notes. “It gives her confidence and it’s something she knows every Monday morning at 9:30, and she doesn’t want to miss it. “I remember her riding Owen, who is 20 Cullman magazine | SUMMER 2019
