Four years into serving as the high school’s direc- tor of theatre, the program won the state’s top prize, a tremendous honor for the students and Cook. And while his priority remains working with students, Cook has been enlisted to build a com- munity theatre program from the ground floor. “I’ve always had a strong love for theatre. When you have it in your blood, you can’t stay away from it,” Cook said. “I was involved in music and dance and performed as a child. We traveled to Birming- ham a lot because there just wasn’t many opportu- nities here. That’s one thing I want to give in our community is an opportunity to perform, whether it’s a child or an adult.” CULLMAN HIGH SCHOOL Cullman High School students perform Beauty & The Beast under Cook’s direction. Wayne Cook, left, leads rehearsal for the new community theatre’s production of “Music Man.” Cullman magazine | FALL 2018 15
