ONE DAY PLAYER OF THE YEAR Sponsored by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop A LTHOUGH THE season-ending One Day Championship at Shennecossett marked the official end of the CSGA tournament season, it also serves as the final points event for the Chris Cote’s One Day Player of the Year race. Last year, the CSGA introduced a new One Day Player of the Year Points race for both the Gross and Net flights of the Tettelbach and Siderowf Division. Sponsored by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop in Portland, Connecticut, players accumulated points based on their finish at One Day tournaments throughout the season. In 2014, Chris Cote’s Golf Shop expanded the sponsorship and provided a total of $4,000 in merchandise prizes to the top three finishers in each division. In the Tettelbach Gross division, Brent Dietz of Cedar Knob GC put together one of the best seasons in One Day tournament history. Diezt accumulated an outstanding 809 points that included wins at six individual tournaments, and earned points at each of the eleven events he participated in, never finishing outside of the top-10. The Tettelbach Net division, Scott Emigh of Fenwick GC entered the One Day Championship with a modest lead and solidified it by winning at Shennecossett with a net score of 69. Harger also compiled four top-5 finishes over the season, including victories at Blue Fox Run GC and Orange Hills CC. While the Tettelbach division races were won in impressive fashion, the Siderowf divisions came down to the final putt. Gene Cufone of Alling Memorial GC fired a round of two under-par 69 to win the One Day Championship and secure his first One Day Player of the Year title. Cufone needed all one hundred fifty points earned from his victory to edge Bill Torza of Wethersfield CC, who finished runner-up by only seven points. In the Siderowf Net division, Dominic Maselli of Topstone GC played steady golf throughout the year en-route to his victory, compiling a total of six top-10 finishes to edge James O’Neill of Great Neck CC by just fifty-six points.
