Political Science
The department of political science advances our understanding of the political world . Through teaching , research , and outreach , the department contributes to a more just , democratic , and sustainable future . Faculty research occurs in areas such as nuclear proliferation and international security , economic inequality and civic participation , immigration policy , ensuring free and fair elections around the world , public service ethics , and governmental responses to crises . As students take courses and conduct research , they gain a versatile set of skills that can be applied in careers in federal , state and local governments , law , business , international and non-profit organizations . Many students apply for local , national , and global internships through the Hinckley Institute of Politics , where they get hands-on experience working for government and non-profit organizations and public advocacy groups .
