I cannot think of a greater honor than entering the throne room of the King of Kings. Yet, to be honest, I don't spend nearly as much time there as I should. Quite often, I'm a princess who runs off, worries her way out of His castle, knocks her tiara off in frantic fear, and rips her dress on a sharp branch called the cares of this world. I can search for so many things, and so many people to fill me up and steady my heart. Yet, unless I find my identity and joy in the throne room of the King, I am utterly disappointed.

As Princesses, many of us don't know how to linger or abide in His presence. We send up a five minute prayer, read a Psalm or two, stick our Bible on the shelf then hop on Pinterest. Day after day, we forfeit our time with the King, for time with a world who doesn't really care about us. Why do we do this?

Quite often, it's because we don't know what to do, or how to act in the stillness of our bedrooms, alone with an invisible God.

Here's a list of creative ideas to encourage your heart to seek after the One True King. Don't just read this list and think, “Awe, that sounds fun.” Set down this magazine, and run to the secret place of the Most High. Put these ideas into action. Stretch your quiet time from five minutes, to fifteen, to an hour, to three hours. Passionately pursue the One who gave everything for you. <3

You will never once regret a moment spent alone with Him.

Unless I find my identity and joy in the throne room of the King, I am utterly disappointed.

Creative Ways to Pursue the King

*Start a prayer journal. Write letters to God. Talk about your day. Spill out your heart in writing.

*Sing a worship song to the Lord, with your favorite CD. (Who says you need to be at church?!)

*Open up the book of Psalms and sing a worship song to Him. Your voice is your instrument. He loves to hear you break into song! Make it up as you go along!

*Choose five people you love, and pray scripture verses over them. Praying the Word is so much better than trying to think of things on our own. Jesus loves when we repeat His own words to Him!

*Brew a cup of coffee or tea and sit silently before Him for ten minutes. That's right, no phone, no computer, no distractions...just you and Jesus. Don't say a word, just fix your heart on Him.

*Take a bike ride with God and just talk. Imagine He is riding next to you. If you don't have a bike, walk, climb a tree, or draw away to some place special.

*Choose five topics to pray for, such as abortion, world hunger, girls who starve themselves, school shootings and bullying. Your prayers really do make a difference! God is just waiting for someone on earth to agree with His heart. Be the one who stands in the gap!

*Ask God how He is feeling. Ask what's on His heart today! Ask what He loves. Discover what He hates. Ask Him to reveal His thoughts and heart to you.
