It’s too easy to focus on trying to be the greatest, smartest, prettiest, bravest, etc. But have we lost sight of what beauty really is?  Beauty means a work of art.

And that’s exactly what you are. You are God’s work of art!

God chose to make each one of us. And every one of His creations is more glorious than anything created by human hands. The image of beauty that society gives us cannot compare to God’s masterpiece!

We can spend all our time striving to meet the impossible standards of this world. We can sit in front of a mirror for as long as we like. We can compete with each other and try to be better than each other. But the truth of the matter is that being beautiful is SO much more. God created more than the outside. He created every fiber of your being.

He knows we aren't perfect, and He doesn’t give us impossible standards for true beauty. Jesus already covered that cost. He sees us like He created us to be, as a beautiful masterpiece. YOU are that masterpiece.

I believe that the only way to attain beauty is to keep our eyes on beauty. God is the beauty that we are to fix our eyes on. There is no one more beautiful or glorious than Him. He tells us in Colossians to set our hearts on things above (Colossians 3:1), meaning that He wants us to always be looking towards Him and reflecting His beauty to the world.

We were not made to fit the exhausting standards of fake perfection in this dying world. We were made to be beautiful in the eyes of an everlasting God. A quote from

C. S. Lewis describes this in a way that leaves me in awe:

“I would rather be what  God chose to make me  than the most glorious creature that I could think of; for to have been thought about, born in God’s thought, and then made by God, is the dearest, grandest, and most precious thing in all thinking.”

-C. S. Lewis
