Sometimes, getting rid of negative and heavy thoughts isn’t as easy as just taking a deep breath or praying. I get that. Which is why God gave us His Word. The Bible is important for many different reasons. It helps us learn about who God is and experience God, it helps us learn about Jesus and His time walking on this earth, it helps us know what the right things to do and right steps to take are, it teaches us how to live our lives. But did you know that the Bible is a weapon? Hebrews 4:12 tells us that the Word of God is alive and active; sharper than any double-edged sword.
weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” -Matthew 11:28-30
“Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” -1 Peter 5:7
emotional, mental, or spiritual, but a battle is a battle, and no matter what kind it is, we need to be prepared so that we are able to win!
What is the purpose of a sword? To put on display because it’s pretty? To admire its beauty? To wonder about things it could be used for? No. A sword is used to fight and conquer an enemy. Just like any physical sword, to use the Bible in such a way to fight and conquer your enemy (Satan), you have to familiarize yourself with it. You have to learn it. Memorize it. Meditate on it. And then you actually have to pick it up and use it. It’s great to have Bible verses memorized, but if you don’t use them, then what’s the point? The Word of God is the most effective weapon we have in this spiritual battle: Use it.
