Let's look at the story of Esther.

I find so much strength in her tale. The story of Esther is actually a very intense, emotionally riveting story. I've often imagined what life must have been like for her.

She was orphaned at a young age. The Bible does not explain what happened to her parents, but says she was adopted by her sweet cousin Mordecai. During this particular time in Biblical history, the Jewish people were in captivity. They had been conquered by the Persian Empire, and were forced to live in exile. They were severely hated and ridiculed by the people around them. The Jewish people were like Cinderella. They had a promise that land would one day be their own, but they were in the midst of stinky, depressing, challenging trial.

Esther's real name was actually Hadassah. She was given the name Esther, a pagan name, to hide her true identity, when she was forced to live at the King's palace. We all know that Hadassah was chosen as queen, and used by God to save her entire nation, but we often forget her humble, painful beginnings. Let's explore what life was like for our dear sister...
