In Kinshasa, Congo, Congolese troops killed more than dozens of youth fighters that had attacked an airport, a military barracks and the state radio and television headquarters. It was reported that 46 youth fighters had been killed and more than 20 were arrested. A government spokesman claimed that the whole situation was under control and that no civilians or military personnel had been wounded. This was not all true after a United Nations staff member was injured during an attack at a airport. The Congo has been struggling to keep the violence stable and under control. The UN has sent over 21,000 soldiers on a peacekeeping mission to help relieve Congolese troops.

Children are one of the main fighting forces for the rebels. At night, rebels will sneak into villages and kidnap children that are between the ages of 8 and 17. Kids are kidnapped because they are easy to "mold" and teach. A man named Joseph Kony has kidnapped about 600 children in the past 3 years. Joseph Kony is rebel war lord that is the leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). The LRA are the most responsible for all the kidnapping of children in the Congo and throughout Africa. When kids are taken, they are forced to kill and watch people be killed in front of them.
