Youth
“We view the youth section as our team of tomorrow
and have had a number of players go on to play at a
higher level; that’s what the Premier League is all about.
You regularly see on a Friday evening and Sunday
morning upwards of 150 youngsters on the field.
We have many teams including a development side
to help players transition into the senior game. A lot of
our senior players now are qualified coaches. There is
nothing better for kids than being coached by first or
second team coaches and it helps to create a ‘one club’
atmosphere. We didn’t have that maybe ten or fifteen
years ago.”
Social
“The club is now a hive of activity and is one of the
busiest places in the town both during the week and
over the weekend even during the off-season. It is a
base where people will come and always be made very
welcome, that is something we have worked hard on.
We also host a very big fireworks display in November
which essentially just started by putting a few fireworks
out for the members children. Now we are getting in
excess of three or four thousand people in.”
Volunteers
“There are a lot of volunteers at the club putting a
lot of time and effort into helping us to be successful.
Without them you wouldn’t have a club. We’ve got a
ground that is second to none and our groundsman
does a fantastic job and it makes it enjoyable for visitors
players coming here. The wicket is very good; you can
make runs as a batsman and take wickets as a bowler if
you’re prepared to bend your back so the comments are
always positive.”
