leading wicket taker across the Four
Counties Leagues. With more and
more of the youngsters progressing,
I’m confident the future of the club is
in safe hands.
Moving forward, the greatest
challenge the club faces is that we
need to modernise and update our
facilities. We have a dilapidated
score hut that should be condemned,
and the changing facilities and
tearoom are cramped and belong
in a previous century. Our ladies’
team, Elstow Belles will not use the
changing rooms because of this,
which is far from ideal, and if we’re
going to continue to develop female
cricket, this needs to be addressed.
Realistically, our fund-raising
efforts, as impressive as they are,
will only get us so far. We need a
grant from the ECB or similar body
to make these necessary changes
and our aim for the coming year is
to try and set this in motion. We do
great things promoting the sport
and engaging with all sections of
the wider community, regardless
of age, gender or race. We now feel
we deserve a helping hand to take
the next step and bring the club’s
facilities in line with our progressive,
modern day outlook.
On the playing side, these are
exciting times at Elstow, especially
with the 1st team pushing for their
first Four Counties title. Without
wishing to tempt fate, I can’t wait to
see Rani Thiarra and his troops lifting
the trophy at the end of August!
