Bishops Stortford
“My son played for the club as a youngster and I continued
taking an interest in the club after he left. They are a nice
community, family orientated club and although I do not
play cricket myself, I enjoy going down to the club in a
special capacity.
Our company has sponsored the club for the past three
years. We look forward to a long and happy association
with Bishops Stortford CC and wish them a successful
season.”

Pleasingly the club has also worked hard to become
a community social hub, attracting local families most
summer weekends who relax, socialise and watch good
quality cricket at the ground. There are few better places
for spectators who often refer to the club as “the best
beer garden around!”
Keeping players in the game is a challenge for cricket
nationally and Bishops Stortford have plans to maintain a
regular stream of new players through the coaching and
development of local young people who will hopefully
go on to play cricket for the senior XIs in future years. To
this end, the club has recently restructured its coaching
programme for 2019 under new Head Coach, Dominic
Chatfield, who also captains the Club’s 1st XI.
For 2019 coaching has been broadened, through the
introduction of the ECB’s nationally recognised ‘All
Stars’ programme aimed at 5 to 8 year old children.
All 9 to 12 year old players will have the opportunity
to development their cricketing skills and build on
their natural sporting abilities. 13 to 16 years old will
concentrate on learning to “play the game” and the
transition from junior to senior cricket. A ‘Gifted and
Talented’ programme will be available to those players
most ready to move on to representing both the Men’s
and Women’s senior XIs.
All of these initiatives are aimed at improving the club
for all over the next five years both on and off the field
of play. With these objectives around greater playing
success, coaching and development of players, adding a
second Ladies team, upgrading ground and modernising
clubhouse facilities, coaching more young people and

Stortford Cricket Club has a great future and can aim
to be the best cricket club in Hertfordshire. It is already
thinking of how to celebrate its 200 year anniversary,
in 2025, and taking steps to ensure it delivers for the
community by providing cricket opportunities for all
and being seen as a social centre for the local community
for the next 200 years!
