They are led by the team of President Bob Dalziel and Chair Phil Trayner and the club has been progressing well under their guidance. So far this season their first team has put together a solid league campaign, having compiled a record of six wins, four draws and three defeats from their fifteen league matches with the other two being abandoned. This sees them sitting in the top half of the table with 173 points on the board. This should provide them with a fine platform from which to go on and have a successful season. As long as they are able to retain their current group of players they should be in with a good chance of pushing on up the league standings. From a batting perspective, Simon Jackson has led the way, scoring an impressive 725 runs at an average of around 80. Ross Powell has also averaged more than fifty and they have been well supported by both Joe Murtagh and Jack Lloyd. Having batsmen who can be depended on to put runs on the board is important for any side and Oxted and Limpsfield will be delighted with the way they have been performing. They will be looking for them to continue this form over their remaining matches. The bowlers have also been in fine form this season with the dangerous trio of Ned Lack, Ross Powell and Luke Fisher having taken a total of 73 wickets between them. Successful bowling will always require more than one player contributing and this is clearly something that Oxted and Limpsfield have covered. Knowing that they have bowlers who will take wickets for the team will be a massive confidence boost for the side as they know they have the firepower available to go out and win matches. Oxted and Limpsfield CC is not a club to focus solely upon their senior set up and this is reflected by the fact that they also have a thriving youth section. This part of the club looks to provide young players from the local community with the opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any club looking to be successful over a sustained period of time to be able to produce their own talent and this is an area that they appear to have under control. Coaching staff involved in this part of the club are confident that they’ve a number of players currently on their books with the potential for a bright future in the game. In order to help make sure that they enjoy a smooth transition into the senior game they also run a number of additional sides. This allows them to gain experience of adult level cricket even if they are not yet considered ready for first team action which can be an important step in the development process. Another benefit of having extra sides is that it allows the first XI to benefit from far greater strength in depth. If they are ever left short on numbers through injury or work commitments they have the option of calling up replacements with a limited amount of disruption. There is much to admire about the fine set up that Oxted and Limpsfield CC currently has in place and this is being reflected in the results they are achieving on the field. If they continue in the same manner they should be able to look forwards to a bright and successful future for many years to come. “It was a natural choice for us to sponsor Oxted and Limpsfield. We have already been sponsors of Surrey County Cricket Club for fourteen years. Drawn by its historic and iconic venue, the member-owned club offers a great opportunity to place the JM Finn brand alongside one of crickets leading and forward-looking clubs and reach an ever-increasing and engaged audience.” Oliver Tregoning, JM Finn 20 Issue 51
