Cockfosters FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/CRICKETCLUBMAG Cockfosters Cricket Club was founded in 1873 and has a rich history of Cricket in the Cockfosters, North London area. Residing in what is a quintessential ‘English cricket’ setting, Cockfosters CC can boast the names of cricket legends like Chris Cairns in the professional ranks and Jack Hyams in the amateur ranks to have both donned the colours of Cockfosters Cricket Club in competitive league cricket. Other playing members have gone on to represent Middlesex CCC and Hertfordshire CCC at youth and senior competitive levels respectively. Also, in more recent years, many of our youth members have had the opportunity to flourish in county youth trials. Cricket week at Cockfosters takes place every year during the second full week in August (2019 – Monday 12th to 16th August) and is the cricket and social highlight of the season. This is where we have guest teams turning up for 5 full days of cricket. It is a time where our community really comes together and joins in a full celebration of Cockfosters Cricket Club. For our playing members, there is normally a game for everyone who makes themselves available. Whether you’re a potential new member, local worker or resident you are all welcome to come along to the social and cricketing highlight of the year. Games start in the morning from 11.30am with, lunch, tea and plenty of refreshments available throughout each day. Cockfosters prides itself on playing the most competitive cricket it can in the true ‘Spirit of Cricket’ 18 Issue 51 and shows fantastic commitment to the youth section and community in general. We hold a ECB Clubmark accreditation that underpins this commitment, providing facilities for and promoting participation of the whole local community in the amateur sport of cricket, affording opportunities for membership to young cricketers and to encourage their training and promoting a social atmosphere for the well-being of the club and its members. We are always on the lookout for new players who can become part of our community at Cockfosters Cricket Club. We have all competitive levels and a thriving social club. We offer great travel links from King’s Cross and the rest of North London & Hertfordshire, the ground is located diagonally opposite Cockfosters tube station. Cricket hasn’t had the greatest profile over the last few years but we’re hopeful that with the World Cup and the forthcoming Ashes this year and more coverage of cricket on grassroots TV next year more people will be encouraged to get involved in this great sport and Cockfosters are ready to welcome new and established players and supporters. Further to our commitment to cricket, we have recently invested heavily in our playing surface which soon, no doubt, will be one of the best wickets to play on in Hertfordshire area and probably most of North London.
