LOUIS, MISSOURI SPOTLIGHT ON IRENE KASES During our chapter’s meeting, Irene Katsanevas Kases shared her immigration story. Irene arrived to the United States of America on December 26, 1954 under extraordinary circumstances. The family is from Kampous, Chania, Crete. Her father, Michael, was a World War I U.S. Army veteran, who left Crete as a young man. Because of this, he could bring his family to the United States. Michael met his wife, Maria, while on a trip to Greece. In 1947, Michael and three of Irene’s siblings— Jim Katsanevas, Kaliope [Katsanevas] Sargetakis and Manuel Katsanevas—came to the United States in hopes of earning enough to bring the rest of the family from Crete.
