AIR FORCE JROTC
Air Force Junior ROTC ( AFJROTC ) is an exciting leadership and character development program for students interested in citizenship , community service , drill and ceremonies , physical fitness , aviation and space , and military awareness . AFJROTC restricts its membership to students who meet and maintain standards of academic achievement , personal conduct , and appearance as prescribed by the United States Air Force . Upon enrollment , students agree to wear the uniform once per week and meet grooming standards such as no facial hair , facial piercings or faddish hairstyles . Although AFJROTC is not a military recruitment program , graduates are offered advanced promotion in the military and are often more competitive for ROTC college scholarships .
Each AFJROTC elective consists of three components : aerospace science , leadership education , and a wellness program . A typical week includes two days of aerospace science instruction , two days of leadership education , and one day of personal wellness and outdoor sports . The aerospace science course rotates between the following themes each semester so no cadet repeats material in a four-year program : aviation history , science of flight , space exploration , cultural studies and survival . Leadership education includes military customs and courtesies , drill and ceremonies , time management , personal responsibility , military and civilian careers , and communication skills . The wellness program concentrates on personal fitness , good sportsmanship and a healthy lifestyle . Throughout the semester , cadets earn individual and team awards , assume positions of increasing rank and responsibility , and gain valuable leadership and personal management skills applicable to a variety of careers . To enhance classroom learning , students may also participate in extracurricular activities such as drill team , honor guard , saber team , orienteering , model rocketry , drone operations , community service events , and overnight field trips to military facilities , air shows and aviation museums .
