Honors American History II Grade 11 1 Unit Prerequisite : Honors American History I , teacher recommendation The Founding Principles will guide students from the late nineteenth century time period through the early 21st century . Students will examine the political , economic , social and cultural development of the United States from the end of the Reconstruction era to present times . The essential standards of American History II : The Founding Principles will trace the change in the ethnic composition of American society ; the movement toward equal rights for racial minorities and women ; and the role of the United States as a major world power . An emphasis is placed on the expanding role of the federal government and federal courts as well as the continuing tension between the individual and the state . The desired outcome of this course is for students to develop an understanding of the cause-and-effect relationship between past and present events , recognize patterns of interactions , and understand the impact of events on in the United States in an interconnected world . Honors United States History is a more rigorous examination of the history of the United States . Instructional pacing will be accelerated beyond the standard U . S . History course . Teaching the same curriculum as the standard American History course , the honors course builds and extends on those same historical concepts as well as the social , economic , political and world events and topics through the 20th and 21st centuries . Students will be expected to read and / or interact to a wide spectrum of more challenging , relevant instructional material .
Honors Blended Civics and Economics

Prerequisite : American History I & II ( 1 st Period Only )
This course is required for graduation . C & E is a survey of functions of government , the American Legal System and basic economic concepts as
they apply to the national , state , and local levels . The importance of responsible citizenship , political participation and economic decision-making is
stressed . This course will combine face to face class time with the online platform Canvas to deliver content regarding the structure and function of
the U . S . Government as well as basic economics and Personal Financial Literacy .

Honors Civics and Economics Grade 12 1 Unit Prerequisite : A / B in American I & II Students in this course will acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to become responsible and effective citizens in an interdependent world . Students will need a practical understanding of these systems of civics and economics that affect their lives as consumers and citizens . Furthermore , this course serves as a foundation for United States History . As informed decision-makers , students will apply acquired knowledge to real life experience . When studying the legal and political systems , students will become aware of their rights and responsibilities and put this information into practice . The economic , legal , and political systems are balanced for presentation and , like other social studies subjects ; this course lends itself to interdisciplinary teaching . The goals and objectives are drawn from disciplines of political science , history , economics , geography , and jurisprudence . Honors Civics and Economics will cover the material in greater complexity , novelty , acceleration , and / or pacing and reflect a defensible differentiated curriculum .
Pre-AP U . S . History Honors Grade 11 ( fall ) 1 Unit Prerequisite : Honors World History , teacher recommendation Students who take this course must also take AP U . S . History in the spring . This course begins the process of preparing students for the demands of the Advanced Placement U . S . History exam that is administered in May of each year . Material for this course covers the history of the United States from exploration through industrialization . Students will be exposed to primary sources , participate in collaborative activities , analyze different types of historical evidence and communicate effectively in multiple writing formats . Topics , materials , and activities in this course will lay the groundwork of knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in the AP U . S . History course and on the AP exam . This course does not meet the graduation requirement for US History .
AP U . S . History Grade 11 ( spring ) 1 Unit Prerequisite : Pre-AP U . S . History Honors This course builds on the content and skills developed in the Pre-AP U . S . History class in preparation for the AP U . S . History exam in May . Students will continue to gain an in-depth knowledge of the history of the United States from roughly the Gilded Age to the present . Historical skills and habits of mind will be practiced in concert with regular reading , document analysis , discussion and collaborative activities . The demands placed on students in this course are the equivalent to those of a full-year collegiate introductory course in American History . This course is highly recommended for students planning to enroll in a four-year college or university after high school . The U . S . History AP exam is required at the end of this course .
