� American College Testing Program ( ACT ) The American College Testing Assessment is administered by the American College Testing Program and used by postsecondary institutions for admissions purposes . The instrument includes five tests of educational development : English Mathematics , Science , Reading and Writing . The Writing is optional . The High School Course / Grade Information questionnaire and ACT Interest Inventory and Student Profile Section are also included in the ACT . The ACT is one of the admissions tests used by postsecondary institutions to assist in selection students . Students must pay and register by mail several weeks prior to the test date . Registration informaton is available in the school counselors ’ office .
North Carolina is now requiring that each 11th grade student take the ACT . The ACT assessment will be given free of charge to all North Carolina 11th graders . ACT test results are widely accepted by college admissions offices and considered an admissions offices and considered an accurate gauge of classroom achievement . ACT results may be used at the high school level to identify students who need assistance with certain subject areas or academic skills , evaluate effectiveness of instruction , and make adjustments to curriculum to improve instruction . Colleges use the ACT for admissions decisions , course placement , academic advising , and loans and scholorships . Fee Waivers Fee waivers are available to students to help offset the cost of the SAT and ACT exam fees . Juniors and Seniors who participate in the Free or Reduced Lunch Program qualify for a limited number of fee waivers on a first-come , first- served basis . Students should contact the counseling office for more information on the process to receive fee waivers .
Advanced Placement Tests AP tests are required for those students who are enrolled in AP courses and desire college credit . Substantial college credit may be earned by attaining the scores required by a given college . Students should consult their selected college or university for specific information . The AP exam will be administered at the end of the course . Students who do not take the AP exam will have their final course grade lowered by one letter grade .
NCDAP NCDAP - a placement test required by many community colleges and postsecondary schools . The NCDAP measures the student ’ s reading , writing , numerical , and math skills . The results will provide the student with useful information as well as a placement exam for many of the North Carolina Community Colleges . ASVAB The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery ( ASVAB ) is administered to juniors and seniors who register . This multiaptitude battery consists of eight sub-tests . The test is administered twice yearly during the school day , once in the fall smester and once in the spring semester . The ASVAB Career Exploration Program can assist young people in learning more about their interests and aptitudes , and about rewarding career opportunities . WorkKeys Foundational and Personal Skills Assessment Seniors that have completed four courses in Career and Technical Education or Career and College Promise courses are administered this assessment . It is the leading job skills assessment in the nation measuring real world foundational skills that employers believe are critical to job success . These skills are valuable for any occupation , skilled or professional , and at any level of education . Based on student performance , students are awarded various certificates .
