Rosie Pelan NEW WORKSHOP Rosie Pelan NEW WORKSHOP
Translation and
the Actor Irish
Playwrights
Series: GB Shaw
Classic plays evolve all the time
through new translations. Actors, if
given a good, ‘speakable’ translation,
may gain access to a play or writer,
they may not otherwise have been
able to approach. The choices made by
an acting company or their director as
to what translation to use, will
influence the style and the impact of
their production. This workshop will
focus on differing translations of Lorca,
Chekhov and Greek Tragedy.

The great Irish playwright G.B. Shaw:
political, witty - and very wordy! The
term ‘Shavian’ was coined to describe
his brilliant qualities. This practical
workshop will explore some of his key
plays and look at some main themes
as well as how to handle his often
dense sentence structures in action.
Some of the texts explored will include
Pygmalion (which My Fair Lady was
based upon) Mrs Warren’s Profession,
and Arms And The Man.
