Saturday 14 October 11:00am-1:30pm (16+ yrs) £18 / £16 Rosie Pelan Rosie Pelan NEW WORKSHOP Rosie Pelan Rosie Pelan Accents for Actors: Cockney The Actor’s Vocal Instrument Scene Study for Actors Beckett for Actors This workshop will teach you ways of breaking down a script and asking questions of the scene, in order to solve the problems posed. The tutor will provide materials that you can use in order to: know who the characters are in a scene; their relationship with other characters; what the essential conflicts or tasks faced within the scene. Tools adopted from Stanislavski and David Mamet will be used to develop your scene study techniques. Samuel Beckett was one of the most influential writers of the 20th Century. This workshop will explore themes such as silence, musicality, humour and memory. You will also examine texts including Waiting For Godot, Happy Days, That Time, and Not I. This workshop will be led by experienced tutor Rosie Pelan, who has taught the Beckett in Performance module at QUB and ran a workshop on ‘Beckettian Form’ with Dr Trish McTighe, at the Linen Hall Library last summer. The Cockney accent is widely used in theatre, TV and film and this workshop will give you the tools to access the accent and work on ‘signature sounds’ that you can continue to practice. The tutor will also bring examples of some texts for which a Cockney accent may be used, for example, Shaw’s Pygmalian and Pinter’s The Caretaker. Rosie has been trained in a range of accents for the professional theatre.
