Reading and Writing Poetry
Come and celebrate the Art of Poetry , both the reading and the writing of it . Throughout the term , each student will get a chance to bring in a favourite poem from which we shall read and discuss the poem alongside some other work , then write something in response to the original . This course is for those already engaged in writing who would like to develop a range of skills through practice , constructive feedback and editing .

You will also learn about regional specialities , prodotti tipici , recipes , culinary traditions , idiomatic expressions related to food and much much more . This course is also suitable for beginners .

Understanding Film & Cinema
For cinephiles wanting to develop their understanding of their favourite films . Participants will learn about the history and theories of Hollywood filmmaking : from the pioneers of the early days of silent cinema through to the modern big-budget special-effects extravaganza . Discover auteur theory and how it applies to the greats of classic and modern cinema , learn how cinema has been used by governments across the twentieth and twenty-first centuries , and look at how changing media circumstances have created the Hollywood movie as we know it today . Participants will be guided in their learning by suggested viewings and will have an opportunity in class each week to discuss the films they have watched .

Comedy Improvisation
Learn how to think on your feet , develop characters , and structure stories in this accessible acting course . Whether you want to try stand-up comedy , develop comedic acting techniques or just have great fun creating scenes on the spot , this is the course for you . Rosie has acted in many comedies in her 20 year professional acting career and she teaches on the QUB Drama degree as well as many classes at the Crescent Arts Centre .

Speak Out ! A Verbal Communication Course
During this course you will learn to harness and use your voice as an instrument of communication and you will develop your ability to stand up in front of any group and speak with confidence and clarity . The tutor will provide lots of exercises and specially chosen texts and tips in a friendly , supportive environment . The course has been running for over ten years by Rosie , who is employed by Politics Plus as an ‘ Expert In Residence ’ at Stormont in Speech Delivery and Communication .
