Player spotlight: Trevor Riters

After the exciting homecoming game, we had the opportunity to interview Trevor Riters. The Senior defensive end and captain of the defense.

I began by asking Trevor, what has football taught you? He replied quickly with,

“Football has taught me that the little things in life really matter, every extra inch on the field or rep you do in the weight room can be the difference between winning and losing.” A statement that represents the workload of Silver Creek football. Their flawless seasons don’t come easy, its how much effort and time is put in. invested.

I continued after his answer to ask, how do you balance education and athletics at the same time?

“I am able to do this as long as I dedicate some of my time after school to do my homework, and I still have plenty of time to get my work done and still enjoy my high school experience.”

I know that every game, is intense, but who do you think is going to be the toughest opponent this year?

“Longmont for sure, the rivalry and hype surrounding the games makes it the most challenging, but also the most fun.” The fans really get into the game, showing school spirit and starting loud chants to motivate the team.

Following that question I asked, What is your schedule for football like?

“Usually, a couple of teammates and I lift in the mornings before school to keep our strength. We also watch film on Monday’s, Tuesday mornings and sometimes Saturday after the game. Practices are everyday, and games once a week. I also work on Sundays.” Trevor and other varsity football players have a full time schedule.

To wrap up the interview, I asked him, “Silver Creek football has always been successful, but how successful is the team going to be this year?”

“We have the potential to do as good if not better than we were last year, we just have to be disciplined and do what we can do.”
