A Second with Schuyler

This fall here at Silver Creek we were very excited to welcome our new athletic director, Mr. Schuyler to the building. He is more than excited to join the Raptors after previously being the assistant principal at Lyons High School and teaching social studies prior. Mr. Schuyler has a substantial background in sports at Lyons, as he was the head coach of baseball, softball, and an assistant coach for basketball during his 10 year tenure. Silver Creek was an easy choice for him and it was only in a handful of schools that he would have left Lyons for. The fun environment at Silver Creek and the immense amount of school pride made it all the more appealing for Mr. Schuyler. When we asked him what he has enjoyed most during his first month at Silver Creek, he replied, getting to know the teams, athletes, and coaches while living the very busy schedule of an athletic director. His weeks are full of long days starting at around 6:30 A.M. He begins the day by setting up his schedule, responding to emails, and doing teacher evaluations. When school is over at 2:30, his day has really just begun. He begins checking out team practices and going to as many games as he can. He usually doesn’t head home until 7 or 8 at night and begins the whole thing all over again the next morning.

One of his goals this year is to connect with the players and coaches of every sport here at Silver Creek, this means going to multiple practices and events in a day or traveling as far as Greeley to watch an event. Getting involved in the classroom is another goal of his while connecting with students all across the building. Questioned about which sport he enjoys watching the most, he answered with every sport, but nothing compares to Friday night football games and the school pride seen in our student section. He loves the enthusiasm students show, but it is also important that we respect the opponent. We can be loud and supportive without degrading the other team and still have a good time at the game. Outside of school, Mr. Schuyler is still a sports addict and likes to golf or watch Penn State football on the weekends. He is also an avid traveler and loves scuba diving with his wife during the summer. Overall, It’s safe to say he loves his job and loves watching our student athletes compete.
