Skiing This Season

By Claire Bicknell and Halley Schmeeckle

As the winter months come around, many people will be hitting the slopes in Colorado. Everyone goes to have fun, however having fun sometimes leads to disregarding the fact that you are not the only skier on the hill. You might be having the time of your life, but other skiers might think differently. Another issue you might face is deciding which ski resorts to go to, after all, there are tons of resorts in Colorado. So before hitting the slopes this year, check out these tips that will improve your skiing experience as well as everyone else's. Also, take a look at some information on a few of the best resorts that you can checkout this winter!

What not to do on the slopes

1. Sitting in the middle of the run: This may not be the worst offense, but it’s a very common problem that needs to stop. I am looking at you snowboarders.

2. Traversing across the slope: If you can't do normal turns, go back to the bunny hill. What your doing can be dangerous ( and annoying).

3. Skiing something you're uncomfortable with: This is the cause of most of the things on this list. When you're scared you do stupid things. You should still take chances, just make sure they are within your abilities.

4. Skiing in jeans: If you ski in jeans, not only will you be terrible, partially because you’ve never skied before, but also because they’re jeans.

5. A world exists behind you, be smart: This may be breaking news for some of you, but there are skiers and snowboarders behind you so look over your shoulder before darting across the hill.

6. Straight lining: For those of you who don't know what straight lining means, it’s when you go as straight and usually as out of control as possible, commonly resulting in a crash. Straight lining is normally done by people who don’t know how to turn.

7. Forcing your kids to do risky things: If you want your kids to grow up to be great skiers, don’t push it. When kids are scared to ski something they do it with terrible form and pick up bad habits.

8.Blast your music: This is very common and very annoying. Not all of us want to listen to your music. Please buy headphones!

9. Getting intoxicated and skiing: You’d be surprised how many intoxicated people we’ve had to deal with on the slopes. Please don’t do this you put yourself and others in danger.

10. Pretending to be good: We can tell the difference between a good skier and a bad skier your hips don’t lie because we can see your form.
