CREATIVE JUNCTION PAGE 1 Welcome. Sleep deprivation and young children can play tricks on your mind. The other night in my middle of the night stumble back from Miss 2’s bedroom I saw a red glow coming from the kitchen. Freaking out, I ran straight into what I thought was a fire. Fortunately it was just the glow of a diffuser I had forgotten to turn off. But who knows what I would have done had it been a real fire. Was I going to run in and extinguish it with the mad flails of my bare hands? Or maybe I could have smothered it with my cotton pyjamas? Anyway, it got me thinking. I haven’t taught my chil- dren what to do in an emergency. I opened the locks on their ranch-sliders I mentally planned how to get them to escape if the house was engulfed in flames. I woke my husband in tears to tell him about the fire I’d conceived in my head. I showed him the escape plan I’d drawn on my phone, and made him promise to remind me to show the kids in the morning. Needless to say, de- spite his midnight promises- he remembered noth- ing. But it just leads back to our main story in this fort- night’s issue, the importance of teaching children what to do in an emergency. My kids wouldn’t have even known what number to dial to reach the fire engine, I’m pretty sure Mr 5 would have called Paw Patrol. So take a moment, sit with your children and teach them what to do because someday they might save a life. Pippa x PHOTO: SARAH MARSHALL PHOTOGRAPHY
