SHE LOVES TO GOLF

Our 'new sport' feature kicks off with Northland Golf Club's 'she loves to golf' programme

What is the name and type of sport?

She loves to golf. A programme run by the Northland Golf Club to encourage motre women to give golf a go.

What encouraged you to give it a go?

Being a 'golf widow'. My husband is always off playing golf so I figured it's about time that I learned so I'm not left at home all the time!

What equipment do you need?

To attend the lessons you just need yourself and a pair of comfy shoes. A hat and water bottle helped in this heat too.

How long did the lesson/game take?

From 5.30pm until about 7.30pm, depending on how much you talk to all the other awesome ladies.

What muscles did you feel got a work out?

My shoulders, arms and hips (surprisingly).

What was the most difficult part?

Probably learning to grip the club properly.

How many others were in the class?

The second class had 13 people, the first one just 6 of us.

What level of fitness was everyone at/ what ages?

A huge range of ages and levels of fitness, from teenagers to gold-card holders.

How easy was it for absolute beginners?

It was designed for absolute beginners so the class was really easy to walk in with no experience whatsoever.

Will you be going again?

Of course. Watch out Lydia Ko haha!

Who do we contact to have a go too?

Northland Golf Club 09-435 0042.
