ISLAND GETAWAY

FACEBOOK QUESTION: Hi Deanna, I'd love to know what you would recommend for a Pacific Island holiday for a family with two pre-schoolers?

DEANNA: The Pacific Islands for under 5's. A paradise holiday only hours from home!

Most people prefer our winter to travel to the Pacific, however either side of dry Season is best.

It is quieter, is cooler, has less rain and no cyclones plus generally has better travel deals and accommodation availability.

For under five's this would suit perfectly being less crowded and not as hot. The months either side of dry Season varies slightly from Island to Island but typically April and October are the best months.

If you are looking at ideas of options, Fiji would be my first choice when travelling with toddlers and kids.

Fijians just love them and have a strong affinity with family. Meimei's (Nannies) and kids clubs are ideal and Meimei's will take your children for the day or a few hours and will also put them to bed for you (depending on resort, but some also have babysitter's for the evening). This leaves you free time to spend together as a couple to snorkel, go for a spa or a romantic dinner out.

There are a few great resorts that have different offerings.

Outrigger on the Lagoon, has a fantastic Meimei (Nanny) service, kids clubs and a huge pool. Castaway is great for kids if you don't mind travelling out to the islands. Many other options available ie Shangri-la Fijian Resort & Spa and Plantation Island which also offer great activities and options for kids. (even Rarotonga and Samoa will suffice). Some resorts offers kids eat free/ stay free deals*subject to conditions*, so depending on your circumstances and what is best for the time you are travelling there is something to suit everyone and kids of all ages.
