Juggling potty training, invoicing, sports, dinners, client feedback and meetings I often wonder in these busy times.

I always go back to the WHY behind my business however and this seems to align the planets once more.

I didn’t want an office job again, working for someone else and coming home late at night. I desired to be at the sideline of my children's soccer games, to be able to take them to the doctors when they were sick and to have the flexibility up my sleeve when life just happens.

This balance that people speak of however, is more like an oasis at times.

Is it actually there? Can water be found? And how thirsty do we have to get to make it work for us?

My negative thoughts creep in as I stand at the kitchen sink cursing myself at 4:30PM that I didn’t order the groceries in time or convincing myself why I need a nanny to do this dinner shift as the toddler moans at my feet and the big kids throttle each other in the lounge over what channel to watch. Takeaways… again?

I know it comes down to being super organised. This is one of the magic keys that I now have in hand, after a long time searching in the sand for it. It may seem common sense to many and easy for some, but for myself it’s a daily discipline. I have had to learn this the hard way and am still polishing the gold.

Our routine starts in the evenings by packing four bags (luckily hubby does his own), having uniforms out, shoes at the ready, prepping work for the next day, lunches half made, the house straightened up before bedtime, early nights and definitely room for error factored in somewhere.

Gone are the days of carefree evenings in front of the telly with a glass of wine at 9PM. We book these in now days or save ourselves for the weekend because if we don’t… or fall asleep on the couch by accident, the next day greets us with back foot chaos and a frizzy haired mum in business high on caffeine.
