CREATIVE JUNCTION PAGE 1 Welcome. There’s something really special about seeing people shine when everything seems to be against them. Food, events and hospitality is one of those industries where you’ve got to work so hard for what you want. This issue highlights just how hard those business owners work. Our cover story is a prime example, a team of Northland businesses who were fed up with seeing industry professionals go to Auckland for their ‘out-of-the-box’ photoshoots. They created a shoot themselves to showcase what Northlanders are capable of. They nailed it! Then there’s Matakana Moonshine, the company’s co-creator saw something in a family friend’s home brew. They went from brewing in the bush to an internationally recognised, award-winning brand. Or the latest café in Kamo. Carl Worthington was about to go into social work when his friend Helen approached him about starting a café. Fast forward to August and Milk and Honey is about to open their doors. I guess it hits close to home because that’s what I wanted for Creative Junction. We are that tiny publication, a blip on the radar with big ambitions. We want to give the little guy an opportunity to shine, to help Northlanders get that step up- because that’s the Northland that I want my kids to grow up in. Pippa x PHOTO: SARAH MARSHALL PHOTOGRAPHY
