From 1,320 BC to the 21st Century, makeup has skyrocketed
through the roof in terms of popularity. Today, even the
youngest generations are getting into it. We spoke with
makeup artist and 12-year old entrepreneur, Kurryn Isi, to
hear why she’s getting into this business at such a young age.
CG: Kurryn, tell me about your business and how you
started.
Kurryn: I started my business as a makeup artists while at
Dream In Motion. It has taught me how to start a business
and what it means to be an entrepreneur. Right now, I just do
makeup for models at fashion shows, but when I get older I
want to do it for all types of people.
CG: What do you plan to do as you get older?
Kurryn: When I get older, I still plan to run own my own
makeup business, but I also want to teach other young kids
how to do makeup if they want to become a makeup artist
when they grow up too. I will also teach teenagers and adults
if they want to know more about makeup or want to become
makeup artists.
CG: What got you into makeup?
Kurryn: When I was little, my mom had drawers and
drawers full of makeup. I would also watch her put it on
herself every day. One day, I went in there to do my own
makeup and she said I did amazing for my first try.
CG: How did you get better and were there any struggles?
Kurryn: I watched a lot of YouTube tutorials and lots and
lots of practice. I did have a lot of trouble with eyeliner at
first, but the more I practiced the more I finally got good at it.
CG: What do you think is most important thing for a person
to reach success in the makeup industry?
Kurryn: To reach success you got to keep practicing and try
your hardest and never give up on yourself. You have to have
courage. And if you’re going to use makeup I would
recommend E.L.F. and NYX. They have really good color.
