Afro-pop The Fate of Nigerian pop musicians have been trying so far, blending the Afro music with ‘POP’ music but I can’t hear any fusion again. Fine! I can hear the beat in which the instrumentations are always similar. So annoying, some so’called musicians don't even know what Afro music is built on; the dynamics, embellish- ments and aesthetics yet they still try to fuse with the pop music. The other day I was listening to a music by so called Nigerian Afro-pop artist. The content and context of the songs is nothing to write home about. While growing up, listening to music, people tend to pay attention to the lyrics of these songs more than the beat itself because these songs are written with things that revolve around us. Now Nigerians are so frustrated to extent that we don't even want to pay attention to lyrics, all we want to hear is the beat . That’s ne! but songs nowadays don’t even inspire or tell stories again. Fela, that pioneer Afro music didn’t leave legacy like this because every song he sang made an impact and generations to come will never forget that. So called Afro-pop artists nowadays drop a song, then after a while it’s gone because there’s no fate for Afro-pop anymore. it’s not about Now anymore, it’s about the Future and Unfortunately the future is Now!!!
