Cranbrook Horizons-Upward Bound ( HUB )
HUB prepares underserved students from the Detroit area to enter and succeed in post-secondary education . Established in 1965 with a grant from the Ford Foundation , HUB is one of the oldest and largest programs of its kind in the country . HUB offers supplementary college preparatory instruction for high school students , many of whom will be the first in their families to attend college . Students are nominated for the program by a teacher or counselor during the second half of their 8 th grade year , and only one of every four nominees is accepted . HUB students complete a six-week summer term living in Cranbrook ’ s dormitories and attend Saturday classes on campus during the academic year . They also receive college counseling and assistance in applying for financial aid from the Cranbrook-HUB staff .
