2014 Rosé of Pinot Noirby Banshee Wines The younger winemakers are my people. The ones with whom I can truly relate. I know first-hand how tough it can be not only to find your voice in a noisy, generally stuffy industry like ours, and to do so while sifting through thousands of years of tradition to find your own production style. But with their Sonoma Coast Pinot of Rosé, the boys at Banshee make it look easy. It’s no secret that production of dry rosé is exploding all over the West Coast. Those of us unafraid to drink pink have been fortunate to find its acceptance widening and its boundaries pushed. Banshee’s whole cluster Rosé of Pinot is a great example of this. Some winemakers would scoff at the idea of taking perfectly good Sonoma Coast Pinot and “ruining” it by by making a rosé. Not the Banshee boys. The brilliant acid shines through the grapefruit, strawberry and stone fruit to make for a for a truly killer rosé. I’m calling it: 2014 is their best vintage so far. Brandon Allen made his first barrel of wine with some buddies when he was 19 years old. Brandon wasn’t trying to become a winemaker, just trying to impress girls and get some free booze but he was hooked. He continued making wine all through college until he finally started SLO Down Wines. His first legal vintage of wine was in 2008 and made 93 cases. Since starting out he has seen a lot of change in the industry and met a lot of great people along the way. As a producer he is obsessed with translating quality, passion, personality and value through his products. As a consumer he searchs for the same attributes…Life’s a party, rock your body.
