STAND Handcrafted riffs on concession stand classics. 1. Jessie’s Dark Sea Salty and Nutty Pretzel Nutty Cups • $16/8-pk Ooey gooey fresh roasted and ground nut butter—not the crumbly, dehydrated commercial stuff—and rich Callebaut Belgian chocolate is the foundation of Jessie’s Nutty Cups. I opted for dark chocolate with sea salt and pretzels, but the chocolate, fillings, and topping combos are endless! Founder Jessica Taige likes a challenge; she makes all of the cups herself in her Harlem kitchen—including many of the ingredients that go into Jessie’s Nutty Cups, like al- mond butter, peanut butter, and jams—and she even takes special orders! I’m tempted to throw a boozy dare her way. 2. The Salty Road Salty Peanut Taffy • $10 As a kid, Bit-O-Honey® and Mary Janes® were my jam, but my palate’s matured, if nothing else, and these chewy, hon- ey-sweetened peanut butter nuggets, littered with crunchy sea salt have unseated a childhood favorite. Sorry, Mary. This salty-sweet tightrope walker wins. 3 3. Theo Chocolate Coconut Bites, Salted Almond and Mint • $2.30 Theo Chocolate enrobes sea salt-almond squares and minty coconut patties in their own luscious organic, fair- trade dark and milk chocolate, respectively. Do I need to tell you which candies I was looking to trump here (and did so successfully, I might add) or do you feel like a nut with the sensation of a cool breeze blowing through your hair? 4. Sweets Indeed Extreme Sour Bawlz! • $6.75, 12 oz. Handmade in Glendora, California by Sweets Indeed, these intensely tart, fruity chews—in flavors like tangerine, wa- termelon, lemon, and green apple—are highly addictive! Warning: uncontrollable giggles will occur when you say “bawlz!” 5. Mint Chocolate Chip Malt Balls • $3.75 lb. 4 Whimsical Candy is known for the treats they craft in their Chicago kitchen, but if you’re lucky enough to step inside their shop on the Loop, you’ll find a selection of panned and old-fashioned candies, too, like Mint Chocolate Chip Malt Balls—crunchy malted milk covered in layers of dark chocolate and creamy mint. Can’t imagine a world without Thin Mints® or mint chocolate chip ice cream? Then don’t visit another galaxy (for even 120 minutes) without sacksful of them. If you visit Whimsical in the warmer months, be sure to save room for their house-made ice cream sand- wiches! 6. Wholesome Organic DelishFish • $2 These berry-flavored domestic fish are delicious, organic, and free of artificial colors and flavors. Hands down, a bet- ter option to their Scandinavian predecessor. © Hundred-to-One LLC 2017. All rights reserved.
