The correct installation of cavity wall protection can be a skilled, complex
and laborious task. For the cavity protection to operate correctly a number
of additional components need to be fitted including cavity trays, weep
holes and cavity ventilation, leading to a multiple of potential faults if any
of the associated items are not fitted perfectly.

In a comparison program of wall cavity fire tests conducted by BRE and
resulting in the NHBC document NF51, the intumescent fire barriers
supplied by Tenmat were the only product to offer full fire and smoke
control when common installation faults and building irregularities were
present, all other products were severely compromised.

Poor installation or accidental damage to cavity socks during the wall
