Aico Firecap reinstates fire
barrier at revolutionary new
Northumbria Hospital
Thousands of Firecap Socket/Switch Inserts from Aico are being installed
in to the new Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in
Cramlington to maintain the fire integrity of wall partitions where holes for
wall sockets have been cut.
Firecap Socket/Switch Inserts have been independently tested to BS EN
1364-1: 1999 and are shown to offer two hours integrity and insulation.
The revolutionary new hospital is part of Northumbria Healthcare NHS
Foundation Trust’s £200m investment to improve healthcare for people in
Northumberland and North Tyneside. Northumbria Specialist Emergency
Care Hospital is the first of its kind in the country dedicated to emergency
care with A&E consultants working 24/7 and specialists working seven
days a week.
As well as providing quality fire protection, Firecap Socket/Switch Inserts
provide an affective acoustic barrier to both impact and airborne sounds.
Firecap Socket/Switch Inserts are simple and quick to install and don’t
require the use of adhesives. They are also highly cost effective, replacing
the need for expensive plasterboard lining or tricky putty pads.
The hospital, which is due to open in 2015, benefits from the latest
healthcare design and safety measures to protect both people and
property. Firecap Socket/Switch Inserts are being installed throughout the
hospital to provide passive fire protection. They are designed to reinstate
the fire, heat and noise barrier when recesses are made to install switches
and sockets.
Firecap Socket/Switch Inserts can be used with metal and plastic single
and double socket boxes in both 35mm and 47mm depths. They are rot
proof and maintenance free.
7000 Firecap Socket/Switch Inserts are initially being installed in the
new Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital wherever the fire
integrity of a partition is compromised, when holes for wall sockets have
been cut.
When a hole is cut in a wall for a socket or switch box, the fire stopping
capability of that wall is compromised and heat loss and air leakage will
occur into the wall cavity. Fitting a Firecap Socket/Switch Insert provides a
highly effective fire stopping seal for up to two hours and minimises heat
and air loss.
