Much more
than an
insulation
Black Mountain Natuwool is much more than an insulation; whereas
traditional fibrous and board products slow down the progression of
thermal movement, the Natuwool acts as a thermal mass, storing the
energy for later and managing the internal living environment. Natuwool
also manages moisture in a far superior manner than its more utilised
competition with its ability to absorb up to 35% of its own body weight
in moisture without affecting thermal performance. Natuwool works in
synergy with timber, dramatically lowering the risk of rot and mould by
protecting the timber structure whilst reducing moisture content; not just
important in new builds but more so in older properties where moisture
levels cause concern.
Black Mountain Natuwool has another amazing and unique benefit;
it can absorb Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). With modern
construction and the attainment of low energy airtight buildings, a build
up of VOCs occurs dependant on products utilised within a property;
formaldehyde and toluene (amongst others) are expelled from many
materials and due to modern airtight building envelopes, they are
unable to escape. An example of this was a new school in Germany
where formaldehyde levels were found to be over the recommended
limits; the building was facing demolition as every measure including
increased ventilation had been tried. The final measure was to install
Sheep’s Wool insulation and the levels decreased by 99% in just 3
days! The wool fibres have the ability to lock up these VOCs and
contribute to a healthier living and working internal environment.
Further studies are going on into the ability of natural products to control this phenomenon, one
of which is a major research project to improve air quality in buildings sponsored by the EU which
Black Mountain is proud to be a part of.
In order for your building to benefit from all these features, please specify Black Mountain Natuwool
Insulation or an alternative Borax (a natural salt which is repellent to insects; especially moths)
treated product with a minimum of 90% Sheep’s Wool content; not all wool insulation is created
equal.
Introducing Magply
Magply is a breathable, waterproof and non-combustible sheet material made from magnesium
oxide which can be painted, plastered and rendered on for myriad applications. Unlike gypsum and
cement based boards, very little in the way of CO2 emissions are produced during manufacture and
as Magply is cured naturally, its quality is consistent and the boards are very strong.
Perfect for internal and external use, Magply can also be used to form gentle curves. Magply has
many uses including fascias, soffits, tile backing, timber frame, wet rooms and timber frame.
