NOTES & NEWS Sponsorships & Events CPABC sponsored, attended, and hosted a variety of events this winter to promote the profession and build relationships with members and stakeholders. Sponsorships included a silver-level sponsorship of the Odlum Brown Forum for Women Entrepreneurs Gala: Pitch for the Purse on February 15 (see below). CPABC also served as a supporting sponsor of “A Conversation with Former US First Lady Michelle Obama,” hosted by the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade (GVBOT) on February 15 (look for a recap in our May/June issue), and was a co-presenting sponsor of the GVBOT budget address (“B.C. Budget with Premier John Horgan”) on February 23. CPABC representatives also attended the GVBOT Economic Outlook Forum on January 19, and the BC Budget Lock-Up in Victoria on February 20. The following day, CPABC hosted its annual Member Recognition Dinner to celebrate this year’s 14 distinguished honourees (read their profiles on pages 16-25). And on March 8, CPABC sponsored Business in Vancouver’s Influential Women in Business Awards (look for a recap in our May/June issue). CPABC’s student recruitment and employer relations team has also been busy over the last few months, promoting the profession to future CPAs. Activities included sponsoring and attending JDC West, Western Canada’s largest business competition for post-secondary students, and the BCIT Student Association’s Big Business Industry Day. The team also attended Intuit Canada’s Get Connected event, Business in Vancouver’s Forty under 40 Awards, the Small Business BC Awards Gala, and the Seabird Island Band Career Fair. In addition, the team hosted information sessions and events for prospective international candidates, post-secondary students, and high-school students across British Columbia. Upcoming events for the team include the CPABC Annual Business Case Competition, which gives post-secondary students the chance to test their business acumen, and the CareerConnect Employer Showcase (page 10). Other upcoming events include the Conference Board of Canada’s Western Business Outlook 2018: Vancouver (April 10) and Business in Vancouver’s 2018 BC CFO Awards (June 2). And don’t forget to mark your calendars for CPABC’s 2018 Convocation on May 12 (eligible students will receive an invitation in March) and the 2018 Spring Pacific Summit, which will be held in Vancouver from May 30-June 1 (page 39).
