EVENTS CHRIS BROWN 8 Metres like the 1936 Helen will be racing in the 8 Metre World Cup in July MORE EVENTS ON THE WATER As usual Cowes is host to a wide range of races and regattas during the year. e Transatlantic Race leaves Newport, Rhode Island on Tuesday 25 and finishes in Cowes. Organised jointly be the Royal Yacht Squadron, New York Yacht Club, Royal Ocean Racing Club and the Storm Trysail Club, a diverse fleet of big and small yachts of all types will be spectacular as they arrive in Cowes aer their Atlantic crossing. e Royal Yacht Squadron are also hosting the 8 Metre World Cup from 20 to 27 July. ese stylish racing yachts are always popular in Cowes and many are also expected to compete in Panerai British Classic Week. Offshore single and double handed races are becoming increasingly popular; a number of races across the channel to Northern France start from COWES 2019 – 2020 Cowes run by the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC), the Junior Offshore Group (JOG) and the Solo Offshore Racing Club (SORC). Powerboat fans should look out for the Cowes- Torquay-Cowes race on Sunday 25 August. 2019 will be the 59th running of this famous race, one of the oldest of its type in the world. 19
