FOOD________________________________________________________________________
C halo Kaawa, it’s all in the name. Or the food. Those who
know Gujarati will understand that it means ‘come eat’. It’s an
invitation to the world of food, and in our case, it comes with an
entertaining and comedic spicing that adds all the flavor. as well
as a variety of worldwide accents as the perfect garnish. Tasnim,
who has background in journalism and media - including a stint
with the SABC’s radio division, turned daily cooking chores into
a whirlwind of quirkiness and inimitable off the cuff
remarks. Gaining significant popularity initially on Snapchat,
YouTube and now an Instagram hit, Chalo Kaawa participated
in, and won, the Irtiqa Magazine’s Charity Cookoff Challenge
2019, with the prize money going to Rare Diseases South Africa.
Chalo Kaawa aims to entertain and educate its followers and
viewers not just about cooking and international stereotypes, but
also to raise awareness about rare diseases, in particular Spinal
Muscular Atrophy, which Chalo Kaawa’s Iman Casoojee -
Tasnim’s daughter, has. Iman is a regular on Chalo Kaawa,
offering her witty and insightful takes on the often ensuing
pandemonium in the CK kitchen. With the Grace of the
Almighty, Chalo Kaawa’s goal is to put smiles on faces, while
keeping its followers thinking about the greater issues that people
face on a daily basis.
