The Women Empowerment Event hosted by Silver Lining Shahista Thokan in March this year was
one which offered not only a delicious networking breakfast but a holistic approach to wellness and
empowerment for attendees. There were speakers covering health and wellness, practical applications
to improve your thought processes and mental state of mind, beauty and healing exercises all focussing
on general "Self-Care" and wellbeing.
What I appreciated the most was that Shahista Thokan the organiser of this event brought a host of
small businesses together and encouraged them to support one another - This was all in the name of
women supporting women. The Covered Team was there to echo the sentiment, that before buying
from big brands look toward your community for products and services with professionalism and a
personal touch. This choice may support a widow who is dependent on the income, or empower a
woman trying to offer support to her household through a secondary income. This could have a spill-
on effect in keeping the engine of a small business alive which will ultimately contribute positively to
the economic engine of our country.
