“I contacted the hospital's and realized that the big hospital's seem to be getting help from various
NPO’s so I contacted my doula friend and she mentioned the situation at the Hillbrow hospital. We
started out by giving fifty mom's baby bags. While at the hospital I experienced first-hand the situation of
these mom's. It disturbed and upset me as a mother that that they don’t have basics to provide for their
newborn babies. After experiencing this we decided that this is something we will continue to assist
with.”
In Dec-January 2019 with the help many kind souls who contributed +-350 bags were handed to a few
selected hospitals such as Hillbrow Maternity Hospital and Fer Hospital in Springs. Mini Miracles intends
to give out 400bags by end of March 2019 with ongoing efforts- Should you wish to contribute to this

African Leadership Persons of the Year: The Covered Team including Editor Yesmien Khota Touffie,
Fashion Writer Waseema Abdul Kader, editorial contributor Sabihah Docrat and myself were honored to
attend the “Africa Leadership Persons of the Year 2019” event held at the Sandton Convention Centre in
Johannesburg during February. The African Leadership Magazines theme “Africa’s Future in an
Interconnected World” was championed by host organizer “Training Excellence” (TE). Hawa Charfaray, CEO
of TE is no stranger to Covered Magazine and frequently writes on women empowerment matters. Hawa
challenged the audience by saying with issues in our country and in Africa “It’s easy to constantly blame others.
Ask yourself what are you as a business leader, politician, a diplomat or a lay man in the street doing
individually for Africa or your region to make a difference, the little that you may contribute could go a long
way.” Honourable Executive Mayor of Johannesburg Herman Mashaba was in attendance as a keynote speaker
along with leading representation from many countries around the world. The Covered Team is very thankful
to have attended as guests at this well coordinated and motivational event.
