Veterinary Science (Cum Laude Recognition)
This class will introduce the students to basic veterinary practices used in today’s animal
industries. Terminology and disease presentation and prevention will be discussed. Students
will have the chance to take temperatures, do fecal cultures for parasites, and examine sperm
cell motility, which are just a couple of the many labs students will part take in during class.
Students will also practice giving shots to oranges and grapefruits. The students will also study
the birth, lactation and growth of the litters of baby pigs born in the large animal lab.
Youth Apprenticeship Agricultural
If the student is serious about a career in the Agriscience area, then this program is for them.
This program involves being enrolled in courses that allow the student to gain the competencies
needed for Plant Science or Animal Science. Plant science includes positions in horticulture
(landscaping and greenhouse) and Animal science includes Veterinary Technician. Students
interested in Plant Science need to enroll in Plant Science. Students interested in Animal
Science need to enroll in Animal Science I & II and Veterinary Science. Students must complete
450 hours of work experience and attain the competencies to obtain the Agriscience Youth
Apprenticeship Certificate. Students that are interested in this program must contact the
Counselor for an application form and to be enrolled initially, pending employment.
