COURSE : Graphic Communication
Introductory Statement The new S3 Graphic Communication Course is designed to build upon the experiences that pupils will gained during the broad general education in S1 and S2 .
Aims & Objectives The course has been designed to allow pupils to express themselves in a variety of contemporary and innovative media .
Course Content The course is split into 4 main topics throughout the year ; Mobile App Design - This innovative and exciting topic will be delivered as an interdisciplinary project . Pupils undertaking the Graphic Communication course will act as the design team and will generate the App concept , develop its look and feel , produce all the graphic components and decide how the App will actually work . The work done by the Graphic Design team will then be passed on to the Computing department who will act as our programmers and bring the concept to life . We have also enlisted an industry leading App design firm , dogfi . sh , providing support and guidance for all of our pupils throughout this project . Dogfi . sh ‟ s client list includes many international companies such as Guinness and Thomson ‟ s Holidays . The approach we have adopted in the delivery of this project ensures that pupils are exposed to a relevant and innovative learning experience that will develop many key skills in order to stand them in good stead for careers beyond school . 3D CAD Modelling - Pupils will become proficient in the use of our , industry standard , Inventor 3D CAD Modelling Software . We are committed to providing the best resources for our pupils . Our department staff are very skilled in the use of 3D CAD and the quality of work that our pupils regularly produce is of a national leading standard . Pupils will be expected to model and professionally render a product of their choice . Pupils will become proficient in the use and application of lighting effects to achieve a realistic looking product . Manual Sketching - Pupils will build upon the skills they have previously developed throughout S1 and S2 and apply them in a variety of situations . By the end of this topic pupils should possess the necessary skills to be able to sketch any product and communicate their ideas clearly . 2D CAD Drawing - The bold introduction of using CAD for 2D drawing instead of the traditional drawing boards , signals our intention to make sure our pupils are provided with the skill set that is desired for work in the graphics industry . The time of traditional drawing board work has long since passed and our move to digital media will ensure that our pupils continue to have the best possible experiences and skills when pitted against pupils , from other
