National 4 ( Course coverage during S3 ) Comprises three units which will be assessed on a Pass / Fail basis .
Software Design and Development - The learner will : Develop short programs using a software development environment Develop an understanding of basic concepts in software development environments to explain how programs work
Information Systems Design and Development - The learner will : Develop simple information systems using appropriate development Consider a number of basic factors when designing and implementing an information system Develop an understanding of the security risks involved in electronic communication Develop an awareness of emerging technologies and their impact on the environment and society
Added Value Unit The Added Value Unit will address the key purposes and aims of the course . In this course , the Added Value Unit will focus on challenge and application .
National 5 ( Course coverage during S4 )
Comprises two units and a course assessment .
Software Design and Development - The learner will : Develop short programs using a variety of software development environments including those suitable for both problem-solving and games development Develop an understanding of basic concepts in software development environments to explain how programs work Produce a short detailed report on emerging and innovative software development technologies
Information Systems Design and Development - The learner will : Develop simple information systems using appropriate development tools such as HTML to create web pages Consider the factors involved in the design and implementation of a small-scale information system Produce a short detailed report on emerging and innovative information system technologies
Course Assessment The learner will draw on , extend and apply the skills and knowledge they have developed during the Course . These will be assessed through a combination of a project and a question paper .
