Often referred to as “the little engine that could,” the Lewisburg Animal Shelter volunteers and its sister non-profit group
have banded together again to put on the fourth annual Bark
in the Park event to raise money for a future non-profit independently run Humane Society No-Kill shelter.
Each year the event gets bigger and bigger as volunteers
learn what visitors like and want at an animal related event.
“Last year we raised almost $4,000,” said Susan Ragsdale,
director of the shelter’s volunteer program and board member
of the Friends of Animals in the Marshall County Human Association. “Every penny we raise goes towards the building fund.”
She said the new shelter will probably cost more than $2
million dollars when all is said and done, but most of that will
come from grants. Every dollar they raise is important to the
cause.
“There aren’t many events that are catered specifically toward animal lovers,” she said. “We’ve tried to think up enter-

tainment and games and vendors that people will really enjoy.”
Some of the most popular attractions will return for this
year’s party. The dog contest returns as does Dancing With The
Dogs. There will be shelter dogs available for adoption, a pet
food drive, dog trainers, dog and cat merchandise and some of
the best local musical talent around.
