Listen live or listen again at www.radioverulam.com I had the pleasure of attending an afternoon showcase at The Water Rats in London of four bands from Prince Edward Island (which lies off the east coast of Canada just north of Nova Scotia). The event was organised by The Music Industry Association Of Prince Edward Island with the aid of various other organisations. The Canadian folk and country scene is rich and varied, partly because it is well supported by government and local organisations. The showcase began with the duo Dennis Ellsworth and Kinley Dowling, who are two singer-songwriters who have got together to tour and release their duo debut Everybody Needs To Chill Out. This was followed by the trio Vishtèn. Pascal Miousse played fiddle; Pastelle LeBlanc keyboards and Emmanuelle LeBlanc octave mandolin and low whistle while providing driving percussion with her clogged feet. Their songs are largely in French and their instrumental skill is delivered with infectious energy.
