WE WILL BUILD A LEGACY THAT INSPIRES FUTURES. MANNYA TRADING CO. Every cup of coffee has a story behind it, usually involving a small family in a remote part of the world who earns a living tending to their field. Ugandan coffee is the number one traded commodity in the country. Whilst that’s the case, coffee cooperatives need to be managed effectively in order for the farmers to benefit. By doing so, a farmer can earn up to three times more per crop. A greater household income means that communities can have access to critical life necessities such as shelter, education, healthcare and nutritional food. Coffee has been an important part of our sustainability pillar for over five years, and as a result we recently launched our very own specialty coffee company, Mannya Trading Co. to further expand on the project and support sustainable futures for farmers and their families in Uganda. We source our specialty, fair trade, organic Arabica coffee from Bukonzo Joint Co-Operative in the pristine Rwenzori mountains in Western Uganda and our specialty, fine Robusta TOTAL NUMBER OF COFFEE FARMERS SUPPORTED from the Rakai district in Southern Uganda. We work with local growers to ensure they produce the highest quality coffee and a sustainable income for generations. 100% of the proceeds from every b ag of Mannya Trading Co. go towards Mannya Trading Co. and our coffee projects in Uganda. Funds are reinvested into training, equipment and facilities for farmers. Although Mannya Trading Co. is still quite young, we achieved some great results in 2015. As the demand for coffee grows, we will continue to reach an even greater number of people and their communities with 5,000 coffee farmers to be supported within the next three years. WHAT IS A COFFEE COOPERATIVE? It’s a group of farmers in a region that pick, pack, pod and process their coffee for sale to Mannya Trading Co. and other global buyers. 2,000 2015 ACTUAL 2,700 2016 PROJECTION 5,000 3 YEAR PROJECTION The number of coffee farmers that we support is based upon those in the Rwenzori mountains and Rakai disctrict, and includes those we have paid higher than market value for their beans. 34 35
