wig is important with keeping my look the same all
throughout the film.
What was one great thing about your pro-
cess in buying the wigs?
When I previously mentioned buying the wigs to Cos-
moBiz, I told you all that I was going to bring my
wigs to my stylist to cut off the lace fronts to shape to
my head. Well, when I walked in today, I didn’t know
that this could be done here! I’ve never been a hair
girl, which is why I have a stylist, but I’m glad that I
could get everything done in store.
Tell us a little about the film that you’re
about to shoot, The Dearly Departed.
Yes, I’m so excited. The Dearly Departed happens to
be a show, which is similar to a Woody Allen come-
dy. The matriarch of the family has passed away and
you would think everybody would come together to
reflect on great memories and peacefully lay them to
rest, but you see family members and as well as total
strangers like myself to go on schemes to go after
their own hidden agenda.
You were also featured on a Amazon
Prime series, The Stranger?
Yes! I played a single mother looking for love from
a stranger she is entertaining that she literally just
met. She’s a boss and she sets down her own set of
laws on how it’s going to go forward. Don’t want
to tell you all too much because it’s amazing and I
want you all to go watch it, but it’s written by the
same director of The Dearly Departed.
Roll Them Credits
When wrapping up the interview with Joy, there
was one lasting thing she wanted to leave with
aspiring actresses when picking a wig: “go with
something that goes toward your brand.” Brand.
That’s especially important for an actress, right?
“It’s great to incorporate different looks with
your characters, but you always want viewers to
recognize you. You want something that is going
to match with your brand, a texture that is going
to suit you well and something that is going to
positively react with your director and with your
viewers. This is why I picked the longer wig. It’s
similar to The Stranger and goes along with my
brand.”
*Spoiler Alert* You may just see Joy in a future
edition, on a possible set, in a film we mentioned.
